Of course, Edna, in his ignorance and fallibility, he just didn’t understand in time that he should not express his veneration for you in terms of a lifetime, but rather in terms of centuries and millennia

They stayed in that bench until deep night with their eyes in their cell phones all the time, like a young couple on a romantic date at Culture and Art Square in 南康区 (Nánkāng District), 赣州 (Gànzhōu), 江西省 (Jiāngxī province), China. Photo: 卢致融 (Lú Zhìróng).

Of course, Edna, there is always a difference between what you do in front of the mirror and what you do on stage

Yeah, Edna, it seems rather imprudent to be talking about a fourth phase

Silvia in Rehearsal
Like all lawyers, Silvia, the “Perry Mason” of the Associazione Culturale “Il Delta della Luna”, displays an excess of zeal in interpreting the law...

Dialectics of the Will
Warning signs at the entrance discourage guests about feeling at their ease: “Come in only if you feel healthy”, “Sanitise your hands frequently”, “Keep your belongings in your bag”, “Wear your face mask if you are not dancing”, “Maintain at least one meter distance on common spaces and two meters in the ballet room”, “The whole area is being sanitised daily and nightly”, and so on.

Lavender hand sanitiser gel
And finally, it’s time for the Associazione Culturale “Il Delta della Luna” to resurrect from its ashes into the so-called “phase 3” of lockdown easing.

Sure, Edna, the show must go on, but it can’t go on without you!

Closing credits
Although it was the first time in twenty-five years that the Associazione Culturale “Il Delta della Luna” couldn’t perform its end-of-the-year dance in a theatre, a casual audience clapped to thank all teachers, dancers and parents for their help and presence, today and everyday.
|
The Silence of Distance
Pictured from top to bottom (left to right), Emma, Giulia, Federica, Carolina, and Bianca. The Associazione Culturale “Il Delta della Luna” saved their last dance for you who enjoyed it. Thank you for coming!
|
Choreographies of the Distance
In other words, even if millions of dancers believe to have performed on the stage of their cell phone screen, for the last three months they all lived in a yellow submarine, where there was no land, no sky, no sea.
|
The Longest Yard
Federica also arrived, just a bit late, but still in time to break onto the scene with her carpenter’s meter stick.
|
Choreographies of the Distance
No rhetoric can hide the fact that distancing people from each other is nothing more than alienation, even though it is done for healthy reasons. So what’s with the hashtag? Oh, my, there is only one rule to this game: #IDanceWithMyVeryOwnMeterStick. And as Dylan said in I Shall Be Released, “They say everything can be replaced, / Yet every distance is not near”.
|
T-shirts
And suddenly a group of young dancers of the Associazione Culturale “Il Delta della Luna” (pictured above is Bianca) invade the scene to rehearse the choreographies of their teachers Alessandra and Viola.

The girl in the pullover
Piazza Vincenzo Fardella da Torrearsa is a small pentagonal square at Campo di Marte (Florence, Italy) with a garden surrounded by perimeter hedges which provide a certain degree of confidentiality. In the centre of the garden stands “The girl in the pullover”, a statue sculpted in 1953 by Zino Boldini Nisticò, which the artist dedicated to his first love. And here is where the Associazione Culturale “Il Delta della Luna” reunited for the first time since last March 8, when a military-enforced lockdown confined people to their homes for over two months. No one knows whether a virus is deadly or not, except by its results. And its results apparently indicate that people are not yet safe or free. Scientists and virologists — not an exact science indeed — do prescribe to wear masks and advise for a bare minimum of one meter of distance. Cursed and fined is everyone who does not observe and obey the orders and rules of such authorities. And so here we are now, heading to a new life.

Yeah, Edna, you have an appointment today, but pray don’t tell anyone

Beyond the Board
In an interview to 深圳晚报 (Shēnzhèn Evening News), May 30, 2020, four-time Women’s World Chess Champion and Rhodes Scholar 侯逸凡 (Hóu Yìfán) revealed she’s about to start a new career as a professional chess teacher and trainer at the School of Physical Education, Normal College (Faculty of Education), 深圳大学 (Shēnzhèn University). In the early months of 2020, 深圳大学 (Shēnzhèn University) actually inaugurated recruitment of chess scholars, which 侯逸凡 (Hóu Yìfán) regards in itself as “a good thing, as it emphasizes the introduction of chess in the university curriculum”. Thus, 深圳 (Shēnzhèn) — to which chess development 侯逸凡 (Hóu Yìfán) contributed already very much — aims at consolidating its leadership as country’s chess capital. “I hope to contribute to the development of chess pedagogy also by studying and exploring derivative disciplines of chess such as education and news media, etc. I will also work to integrate chess with other studies and subjects, such as, for instance, psychology”, 侯逸凡 (Hóu Yìfán) said.
