“Holding Women’s World Chess Championship match in Ukraine is a very symbolic and important event for our city and for the whole country. Personally, I cannot remember when such events ever occurred here. Perhaps this will be the first time in the history of Ukraine”, Women’s World Chess Champion Maria Muzychuk said. “I think that World Chess Federation (FIDE), when considering applications, should take into account the eminent chess school of our city, and the fact that many renowned Grandmasters come from here”.

Last week, Ukraine’s Minister of Youth and Sports Ihor Oleksandrovych Zhdanov, Lviv Mayor Andriy Ivanovych Sadovy, and FSHU (Ukrainian Chess Federation) President Viktor Vladimirovich Kapustin, signed the application in the main office of the International Chess Federation FIDE.
