同城德比

丁立人 (Dīng Lìrén) – 王皓 (Wáng Hào)
7th Chess World Cup; match game 2; Tbilisi, September 13, 2017
3r4/R2nk1p1/2p1p1Bp/4P2P/2R5/6P1/4rPK1/8 w - - 5 37

Position after 36. ... Rb2-e2

Thanks to an unfortunate opening choice by his opponent, 丁立人 (Dīng Lìrén) could enjoy the Catalan endgame in its best possible version, but his “way of implementation” was nevertheless very instructive: 37. Re4! Much stronger than 37. Rxc6 Rxe5 38. Rcc7, which yet did not seem to be bad. 37. ... Rxe4. The trade of Rooks is forced, otherwise follows Re4-f4. 38. Bxe4 Rc8 39. f4 Kd8 40. Kf3 c5 41. Ke3 Rc7 42. Ra8+ Rc8 43. Ra6 Ke7 44. Ra7 c4 45. Kd2 c3+ 46. Kc2 Kd8 47. Bd3 Rc5 48. Ra8+ Ke7 49. Ra7 Kd8 50. Ra3. That’s all White’s got. The Black c-Pawn falls, and after the change of Rooks White’s Bishop will dominate the Black Knight. 50. ... Nb6 51. Rxc3 Rxc3+ 52. Kxc3 Nd5+ 53. Kd4 Ke7 54. Be4 Nb4 55. Kc5 Na2 56. Kc4 Nc1 57. Bd3! 1 : 0. The triumph of the Catalan Bishop: if Black does not trade on d3 (losing the Pawn ending), White will play Bd3-f1(!) trapping and winning the Knight.
