Arkady Vladimirovich Dvorkovich of Russia was re-elected for a second term as President of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) on Sunday at FIDE General Assembly in Chennai, India. He secured 157 votes, against 16 votes for the other candidate, Andrey Vadimovich Baryshpolets of Ukraine, while Bachar Kouatly of France, the third candidate, withdrew his candidacy just before the election. Dvorkovich’s re-election implies that five-time World Chess Champion Viswanathan Anand of India, who was running on his presidential ticket, is appointed as FIDE Deputy President.
