Down at the Dinghy

The newly World Chess Champion 丁立人 (Dīng Lìrén) gave an in-depth exclusive interview to Eteri Kublashvili — the press officer of the Chess Federation of Russia — in which he recounted what he felt on his way up to the throne of the world’s chess. And yet, he never dreamt to be a World Champion; his ipse dixit, his dream in chess is “To plan like an engine, an artificial intellect”, he said smilingly.
Besides his dreams, he is more earthily tempted to have a stopover in Turin, Italy, because he roots for Juventus (one of the two city’s soccer teams) and likes Federico Chiesa so much.
When asked what are his own three favourite games, he said: “At the Olympiad against Duda. Against 白金石 (Bái Jīnshí) at the Chinese League. And maybe the last game of rapid here, the most important one”.
Finally, as a lover of literature, he didn’t shy away from recommending reads: “Stories by J. D. Salinger, for example”.
