New York’s progressive Democrat Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez tolled the bell for her party fellows with a tweet that includes a Big Bang: “To get the virus under control, we need to pay people to stay home”. Who knows, maybe, under the effect of such a shocking suggestion, a bipartisan deal on a second stimulus check might be eventually blessed by all the more moderate of both parties as a final victory of capitalism over socialism. The Queen’s Gambit
Democrat Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez handily won second term in New York’s 14th Congressional District on Tuesday “despite millions spent against [her]” by her Republican challenger and despite the mistrust of her own party comrades, apparently concerned about her progressive agenda. Alice Through the Looking Glass
Democratic congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has questioned the FBI over a potential double standard for perpetrators of violent extremism. She said Muslim mass killers tended to be charged with terrorism while massacres by white supremacists were considered only to be hate crimes. “Doesn’t it seem that because the perpetrator was Muslim that the designation would say it’s a foreign organisation?”, Ocasio-Cortez asked the Assistant Director of the FBI’s Counterterrorism Division Michael McGarrity, to which he responded: “That’s not correct”. Ocasio-Cortez then asked him if white supremacy was not a global issue. “It is a global issue”, the FBI official responded. “So why are they not charged with foreign terror?”.

Social equality
Democratic congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (pictured above), has thrown her support behind Queens District Attorney candidate
Tiffany Cabán in a pivotal Democratic primary set for June 25.
“Our criminal justice system needs to change. New Yorkers deserve a seat at the table, and a champion who will fight to realign our priorities towards equal treatment under the law”, Ocasio-Cortez declared. “If Tiffany Cabán wins, things are going to change. Instead of criminalizing poverty, we’re going to dedicate resources towards prosecuting abusive landlords. Instead of targeting people who use marijuana, we can go after the drug companies that took advantage of working-class folks for profit. We can end broken windows policing and rebuild the relationship between our communities, and the justice system that’s supposed to work for us. We can end cash bail, so that the rich and poor are held equal in the eyes of the law. We deserve a district attorney that understands that to make our community safer we help people prosper. We deserve Tiffany Cabán”. Photo: Reuters.

“I am a public defender. I have spent my career working for people who did not have resources to defend themselves against the brutal system of mass incarceration. I am running to transform the Queens District Attorney’s office after years of witnessing its abuses on the front lines”, Tiffany Cabán says about herself. 60 Minutes in the Life of an Urban Dancer
In her interview with CBS’ 60 Minutes last Sunday, Democratic Socialist star Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez succeeded in making President Donald Trump quite angry by calling him a racist. “The President certainly didn’t invent racism. But he’s certainly given a voice to it and expanded it and created a platform for those things”, Ocasio-Cortez told the host Anderson Cooper.
“Do you believe President Trump is a racist?”, Cooper asked. “Yeah, no question”, she replied. In response, the White House promptly told 60 Minutes that “Ocasio-Cortez’s sheer ignorance on the matter can’t cover the fact that President Trump supported and passed historic criminal justice reform” and “has repeatedly condemned racism and bigotry in all forms”. |

Cat on the Hill
Early Tuesday, newly-elected Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, of New York’s Fourteenth District, took to Capitol Hill to join climate change protesters staging a sit-in outside Nancy Pelosi’s office, in order to call on Democratic leaders to develop a plan to switch to renewable energy. Ocasio-Cortez, however, stressed she wasn’t there to protest Pelosi herself. “This is an encouragement of her, and this is to show that we’re here to back up bold action and that she will be supported in that”, Ocasio-Cortez said. Cinderella for a Night
Pictured above is Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the worldwide icon of Democratic Socialists of America, who on Tuesday made history as the youngest woman ever elected to Congress. Until last year she was working as a waitress and bartender to help support her mother, but now, after winning her race for New York’s 14th Congressional District with about 78 percent of the vote, she is called to higher services, and that’s her challenge — “I knew that the moment the great governing spirit strikes the blow to divide all humanity into just two opposing factions, I would be on the side of the common people”. (Che Guevara). Photo: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@ocasio2018).

Balancing the Chakras
Democrats won back the House majority, seizing the 218 seats needed to break Republicans’ eight-year monopoly, while the Grand Old Party (GOP) managed to keep Senate.
It was a parade of women first-timers, most of them by Democrats: Ayanna Pressley in Massachusetts, Rashida Tlaib in Michigan, Ilhan Omar in Minnesota, and, of course, the superstar Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who, together with Tlaib (House) and Bernie Sanders (Senate) raises to three the number of declared Socialists in Congress — the highest number in U.S. history. |
