Harmony of Colours
President of the People’s Republic of China 习近平 (Xí Jìnpíng) met Kim Jong-un, Chairman of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK) and Chairman of the State Affairs Commission of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), in 大连 (Dàlián), northeast China’s 辽宁省 (Liáoníng province), on May 7–8.
As usual, Kim Jong-un was accompanied by her younger sister Kim Yo-jong, Director of the Propaganda and Agitation Department of the Workers’ Party of Korea, who attended all the talks related to China–North Korea relations as well as other issues of mutual concern. Photos © Jajusibo. |
But when the host offered a welcoming toast to begin a ceremonial banquet, and the guest lifted a chalice of red wine in her hand, then suddenly, the rest was silence. Photos © Jajusibo.

Women in Fashion
China’s censorship authority blocked and banned any mention of Kim Jong-un’s wife, Ri Sol-ju, after several users of Chinese social media commented that North Korea’s First Lady was more elegant and better dressed than Chinese First Lady 彭丽媛 (Péng Lìyuán). Both First Ladies were filmed or pictured in at least three different outfits during Kim’s two-day stay in 北京 (Běijīng), China. Photo collage: iask.ca.

Round Trip Ticket by Train
The above picture, released Wednesday, March 28, 2018 by China’s 新华社 (Xīnhuá News Agency), portrays Chinese President 习近平 (Xí Jìnpíng), second from right, and his wife 彭丽媛 (Péng Lìyuán), right, and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, second from left, and his wife Ri Sol-ju, left, posing for a photo at the Great Hall of the People in 北京 (Běijīng), China. The Chinese government confirmed Wednesday that North Korean leader paid an “unofficial” visit to People’s Republic of China from March 25 to 28 (round trip ticket by train) in his first known visit to a foreign country since taking power in 2011. The most likely purpose of Kim’s visit was to outline all details before his impending April summit meeting with South Korean President Moon Jae-in. If nothing else, he may not reproach himself afterwards with having left anything untried
The National People’s Congress of the People’s Republic of China confirmed by a majority vote the constitutional amendment which in fact abolishes any presidential term limits, thus setting 习近平 (Xí Jìnpíng) up to rule for life. Two other constitutional amendments, consequential and complementary to the aforementioned one, were also approved through the same vote: the addition to the Constitution of a political theory called “习近平 (Xí Jìnpíng) Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era”, and the institution of political “supervisory commissions” for investigating party members and civil servants.

低温生物学 (Cryobiology)
新华社 (Xīnhuá News Agency) published a 36-word dispatch in which it is said that the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China has proposed China’s Constitution be modified so that it no longer contained a section stipulating that the President and Vice President “shall serve no more than two consecutive [five-year] terms”. That means that 习近平 (Xí Jìnpíng) is seriously thinking about staying in power for at least another ten years and perhaps even beyond.
