In his annotations for the Hungarian Chess Federation web site, Grandmaster Tibor Fogarasi recommended “17. Bxc4 Δ 17. ... f5 18. Bd5!”.
17. ... Qf6. A very interesting Pawn sacrifice which 侯逸凡 (Hóu Yìfán) feared not to cash in.

20. ... Rg8! Fogarasi awards two exclamation marks to the move: “A very difficult move, after which the Chinese player got completely confused...”
21. a5. 21. Bc5!? f5!? is very similar to the game.

23. Red1? “The decisive mistake. ⌓ 23. Nxe5! Bxe5 24. Rxe5 Rxg2+ 25. Kf1 should hold for White”, writes Fogarasi.

28. Kf1? Strangely this mistake went unnoticed by Fogarasi. 28. a6! Bxg2 29. Nxg2 Rxg2+ 30. Kh1 is alright for White.
28. ... Bxg2+ 29. Nxg2 f3! 30. Be3 e4! Once again Fogarasi demands two exclamation marks: “A hard rain is falling!”.
31. Ra3 Be5 32. Rb3 c6! Of course the engines are here on the spot instantly: 32. ... Rd8!! 33. Rxd8 fxg2+ 34. Kg1 Bh2+ 35. Kxh2 g1=Q#.
33. Bd4 fxg2+ 34. Kg1 Rd8 35. Rbd3 Rgd7! 36. Bxe5 Rxd3 37. Re1 Rg8 38. h4 Rh3 39. Bh2 Rxh4 40. Rd1 Rg7 41. b4 e3 42. fxe3 Rxc4 43. Be5 Rgg4 44. Bd6 h5 0–1.
