Breaking news: 13th World Chess Champion Garry Kimovich Kasparov will play the third leg of the 2017 Grand Chess Tour in Saint Louis, Missouri, United States, even though only the Rapid & Blitz event (from 13 to 19 August), and not — quite understandibly — the 5th Sinquefield Cup (July 31 – August 12). Kasparov’s big move undoubtedly shakes the too stereotyped and classist format of the Grand Chess Tour and will likely give new life to the Western cartel party in view of the next presidential elections in FIDE, as so far it has not been able to represent itself as an actual alternative to the reigning mainstream. As for chess, instead, one may guess that Kasparov were thinking of a comeback from quite a while. It will be very interesting to see him playing rapid chess, and it will be well his super-rated opponents should not make the mistake of badly underestimating him, as they can be sure he’s still studying chess very seriously every day, even if he says he’s not. Never believe someone who hates losing.
