Position after 58. Qc2-b2
Who’ll win the Olympics? Only tomorrow will tell. For today the only emotion came out from the drawn clash between Armenia and Azerbaijan, in which the Armenian Anna Maria Sargsyan impetuously, if didactically, threw away both her own and her team’s win: 58. ... Ng4! 59. g3 Qf3?? The classic “riches to rags” drama! After 59. ... Qd3! White is stuck in zugzwang, and can’t avoid a quick mate. 60. Qb1+?? 60. Qg7+! Kf5 61. Qg6+!! with perpetual check or stalemate. 60. ... Kh6?? Both 60. ... f5 and 60. ... Qf5 bring back the time, with mate coming soon. 61. Qg6+!! Black is not given a second chance! 61. ... Kxg6 stalemate.
