New York City, NY — MARCH 1972: A tinted portrait of chess Grandmaster Bobby Fischer on the cover of a special issue of Amerika magazine, right before Fischer’s World Championship match against Boris Vasilievich Spassky. Amerika, also known as America Illustrated, was published by the now-defunct United States Information Agency (USIA) during the Cold War, for distribution in the Soviet Union as a form of cultural exchange.
