Boa imperator

12th World Chess Champion Anatoly Yevgenyevich Karpov praised the sportsmanship of Magnus Carlsen, Norway’s World Champion, who publicly questioned the legitimacy of the disqualification of Sergey Alexandrovich Karjakin. “Magnus is great. I feel like I should shake his hand. I did not expect him to make such statements”, Karpov told TASS on Tuesday. “Almost 100 years ago, in the summer of 1924 at Paris, the founders of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) prided in the motto: Gens una sumus (We are one Family). And for nearly a century, even at the time of fascism — guess in which country — FIDE never made any political decisions. What has now happened is very dangerous for the Federation. Depriving one of the best Grandmasters of the opportunity to play is a crime, and as far as I understand, the Ethics Commission has no right to disqualify Sergey Alexandrovich”.
