The still-reigning World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen was quoted by Dagbladet as saying in the NRK podcast that he does not buy that this year’s World Championship shows that classical chess is alive and well: “It’s great we’ve got a match now where the players are so little destructive, but the way I see it, that does not mean that the existing structural problems are solved accordingly. What we see here is that people don’t try to be destructive”.
