Moscow, Otober 16. Interfax News Agency – The President of the Fédération Internationale des Échecs (FIDE) Kirsan Nikolayevich Ilyumzhinov has said that he intends to propose the involvement of young and ambitious people in the FIDE Presidential Board, such as, for example, the founder of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg.
“We’re open-minded enough to involve people with innovative ideas. The FIDE Presidential Board is constituted by a group of 80-year-olds. On one hand, their experience is useful, but for changing the world we also need young and ambitious people, better if with money on their side”, Ilyumzhinov said on Monday at a press conference at the central office of Interfax News Agency.
He suggested that the Board might invite Zuckerberg, as well as the founder and executive chairman of Alibaba Group 馬雲 (Mǎ Yún), professionally known as Jack Ma.
Ilyumzhinov also announced his intention to create an open source website in order to collect ideas and proposals for improving FIDE. Furthermore, he is thinking of organizing a tournament with the participation of famous people, since Zuckerberg and Microsoft’s founder Bill Gates are chess enthusiasts.
At the same time, Ilyumzhinov said that he is willing to serve as a Facebook adviser and consultant. “We’ve a market to get to Facebook, 600 million people play chess”, FIDE President said.
