12th Women’s World Chess Champion Alexandra Konstantinovna Kosteniuk added to her long list of awards and titles the ACP European Women’s Blitz Chess crown. In the crucial game against Valentina Evgenyevna Gunina, Kosteniuk showed all her temper and character snatching a win out of nothing: 91. ... Qf3+ 92. Kg6 Qg4+ 93. Qg5?? Gunina believes she is winning, but a great surprise awaits her! Correct was 93. Kf7 Kh7 with a draw in hand. 93. ... Qe6+! 94. Kxh5 Kh7! 0 : 1. In fact, White’s King is caught in a mating net: if 95. Qg4 then 95. ... Qh6 mate, whilst if 95. g4 then 95. ... g6+ and mate next move.
