The 2018 World Go Championship will take place at Nihon Ki-in in Tokyo, Japan from 17–19 March 2018. The winner will walk away with 20 million yen ($178,000) in prize money and a Nike award. 2017 China’s Top Ten Laureus World Sports Awards Ceremony was held in 北京 (Běijīng), China on the evening of December 20, 2017. 16th Women’s World Chess Champion 谭中怡 (Tán Zhōngyí) was also in the polls, but in the end the coveted “Best non-Olympic Athlete Award” was awarded – for the second consecutive year – to Go superstar 柯洁 (Kē Jié).

Google’s AI AlphaGo defeated Go world’s number one 柯洁 (Kē Jié) for the third time in a row on Saturday, thus winning 3–0 the three-game match held in 乌镇 (Wūzhèn), China. “I faced a cold, calm and terrifying opponent, to the best of my ability, I could only predict half of AlphaGo’s moves. I wish I could have done better”, 柯洁 (Kē Jié) finally said.
