Finally, today, Fabiano Caruana arrived in Yekaterinburg, Sverdlovsk Oblast, Ural Federal District, Russia to take part in the imminent Candidates Tournament, which will start at Hotel Hyatt Regency within four days. The organisers said that, with regard to coronavirus concerns, Caruana followed the same health protocol as Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, who arrived in Yekaterinburg earlier. That is, French Grandmaster spent two weeks of quarantine in France just before flying to Moscow, and then it was arranged for one separate terminal for his flight to Yekaterinburg. Once arrived, he was taken in a special car to the hotel, and finally accommodated in a separate suite, where he’s being constantly monitored by doctors. Actually this could throw a different light on Azerbaijani Grandmaster Teimour Radjabov’s withdrawal, because, as Leonard Barden writes in his The Guardian column of March 13, 2020, “The Candidates is a marathon 14-round, three-week event lasting until 4 April, so there may be some more anxious moments along the way”.
