Andrey Vasilievich Filatov re-elected as President of the Russian Chess Federation

10th World Chess Champion Boris Vasilievich Spassky was elected Honorary President of the Russian Chess Federation

Moscow, February 3. /TASS/. Andrey Vasilievich Filatov was re-elected President of the Russian Chess Federation (RCF) to a new four-year term, a TASS correspondent on the scene reported.
The presidential election was held on Saturday in Moscow. The RCF Presidency was also claimed by the member of the Supervisory Board of the RCF from Ingushetia Zaurbek Sultanovich Malsagov and the leading researcher at the Institute of Economics of the Russian Academy of Sciences Ivan Valentinovich Starikov. 56 people voted for Filatov, 14 for Starikov, and 1 for Malsagov.
The President of the Fédération Internationale des Échecs (FIDE) Kirsan Nikolayevich Ilyumzhinov, the former Soviet Champion in ski jumping Eduard Anatolyevich Suboch, and the President of the Moscow Region Chess Federation as well as President of the Rostov Region Chess Federation Sergey Anatolyevich Nesterov withdrew their candidacies before the polls closed.
Filatov’s candidature was supported by the Board of Trustees of the Russian Chess Federation and a number of chess players, including 14th World Chess Champion Vladimir Borisovich Kramnik and the challenger for the 2016 World Chess Championship Sergey Alexandrovich Karjakin.
Also on Saturday, 10th World Chess Champion Boris Vasilievich Spassky was elected Honorary President of the Russian Chess Federation.
Filatov is Vice President of FIDE and senior coach of the men’s Russian chess team. He has been President of the Russian Chess Federation since 2014.
